Exfoliating Papaya Face Mask
Summer time is for beaches, salty water and lounging. With the hot humid weather, sometimes it’s better to let your skin breathe rather than piling your face with makeup only to have it melt under the sun (the horror!) Going au naturale is not as daunting if you take care of your skin. This summer, try making a papaya mask to brighten and exfoliate your face. This mask contains three eco-friendly ingredients: papaya, honey, and yogurt. Papaya contains the enzyme papain which helps to dissolve and break down the proteins in dead skin cells, allowing the fruit the exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin. Honey helps with redness and acne scarring. Yogurt is full of anti-bacterial properties that are great for soothing and moisturizing the skin and getting rid of redness and irritation. I prefer to use Greek yogurt, since it’s thicker in consistency, which prevents dripping when used in a facial mask.
1/4 of a ripe papaya
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon yogurt
If you have a food blender, simply dice up 1/4 of a ripe papaya and add your honey and yogurt and blend it. If you don’t have a food blender, mash up the papaya, and then add the honey and yogurt, and mix well. Always remember to do a patch test on the inside of your wrist before applying the mask on your face. Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes or until the mask becomes dry and then rinse off with luke warm water. Your skin should look brighter and smoother.
For the rest of your papaya, you can also dice them up, add a dollop of yogurt and drizzle with honey for a healthy breakfast or snack. Both papaya and yogurt helps with digestion. Healthy eating and pampering!
